Amtrak added new hot meal options for sleeping car passengers on two overnight trains between Chicago and the East Coast.

Traditional dining car services on the Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited trains were replaced with the option of cold, pre-loaded meals for sleeping car passengers in June. Passengers in sleeper cars can also access unlimited sodas, an airline-style amenity kit and one free beer, wine or liquor.

Amtrak said passenger feedback will be monitored for future improvements.

As of last month, sleeper car passengers also have hot meal options, delivered in bento-style balsa wood boxes. New menu options include braised beef short rib in a red wine and beer sauce, in addition to the cold options of vegan wrap, chicken Caesar salad or antipasto plate. There’s a new kids meal available and kosher meals can be reserved with 24-hour notice.

Passengers can eat in their bedroom or roomette, at a table in the Lounge Car or in the dining car.
