American Airlines announced it will scrap in-seat screens on its new fleet of Boeing 737 Max aircraft, to be used primarily for domestic routes.
Passengers will be required to use their own devices to take advantage of in-flight entertainment, a move American Airlines justified in a statement, saying 90 percent of passengers bring their own devices on board.
The new cabins will no longer feature any built-in video screens, which the airline argued would be obsolete in a few years anyway.
Instead of investing in screens, the airline will reallocate investment into upgrading in-flight internet speed to allow passengers to browse and steam movies quickly from their laptops, cellphones and tablets.
