In May, Asiana Airlines will become the first Korean airline to debut a premium-economy class.
The new class, known as Economy Smartium, will debut on the airline’s Airbus A350 offering additional legroom, priority boarding, airport lounge access at Seoul’s Incheon Airport and other special in-flight services.
Asiana ordered 30 A350s, 12 of which will be the A350-900, home to the new premium-economy class. The model arriving this year will feature a configuration with 311 seats: 28 in business, 36 in premium economy and 247 in economy. First class will not be available on the new A350s.
The first four aircraft will deliver this year, with the full order scheduled to be complete by 2025. The first aircraft will arrive in April and will be deployed on flights from Seoul (ICN) to Osaka (ITM) and Manila (MNL) on May 15. Long-haul services to San Francisco (SFO) and London (LHR) will be introduced in the second half of the year.
