Accor is planning to debut an MGallery luxury hotel in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia. The property is slated to sit within Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site. Plans for Shaden Resort Al Ula, an MGallery Experience, feature more than 130 tent-like guestrooms, a large dining area, a coffee lounge, a pool, a fitness center and a spa. The enhancements to the current property are due to wrap up in November 2020.

Vision 2030 is Saudi Arabia’s initiative to reduce its reliance on oil exportation and instead grow its economy through other sectors, including tourism. The Saudi government calls tourism a “promising sector,” and says it will “create attractions that are of the highest international standards, improve visa issuance procedures for visitors and prepare and develop our historical and heritage sites.” It also aims to increase tourism sector jobs by 50 percent, to 1.2 million, by 2020. BMI Research predicted international tourism to Saudi Arabia will grow by nearly 6 percent each year through 2022.
