In an effort to appeal to the midscale business traveler, InterContinental Hotels Group opened the first no-frills property in its new brand, avid.
Touting itself as a back-to-basics hotel, avid properties offer just enough for the busy business traveler, but with modern touches, including the ability to stream programming from mobile phones or tablets onto each room’s 55-inch TV screen. Rather than being assigned a random room based on availability, future guests can browse available rooms and choose their favorite, leaving little room for unwelcome surprises in terms of space, layout and proximity to the elevator. Guests can also choose from firm or soft pillows and opt to have black-out curtains in the room for a peaceful night’s sleep.
In place of hot breakfast buffets, guests will find familiar foods to start their days, such as yogurt from Chobani and Kind granola bars, available to take on the road or enjoy in the hotel’s lobby.
The first avid property opened in Oklahoma City, Aug. 13, with nearly 200 to follow in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
