The famous “Name Your Own Price” promotion, touted by Priceline’s car rental services, has been terminated by the travel booking company.
Once upon a time, the pricing model let travelers suggest what they considered to be a reasonable price for services such as airfare, car rentals and accommodation. Using this approximation, the site would provide a list of results close to the user-suggested cost as well as other traveler-specific factors, such as location, car type and the length of the rental period. While seemingly helpful for travelers on a budget, the search function became time consuming for users forced to bid and then wait for a deal to meet their designated price.
With the removal of this model, Priceline now offers other types of deals that can save customers as much as 40 percent on various services. Specifically for rental cars, Priceline customers will be privy to Express Deals, which don’t require a wait time to receive the lowest possible price.
The “Name Your Own Price” feature ceased to exist with airfare searches in 2016, but it will still apply to hotel rooms.
