In 2007, Singapore Airlines made waves with its first suite featuring the first-ever double bed on an airline. A decade late Singapore unveiled a new suite to compete with the many innovations made in luxury first-class travel over the years.
According to Singapore’s executives, the suites will be 60 percent larger than the previous versions and include a leather recliner and a single bed, some of which will be an adjoining suite to form a double. Additional features include various compartments for handbag and carry-on storage, premium privacy with sliding doors and adjustable blinds and a 32-inch monitor for in-flight entertainment.
The first aircraft to feature the new suites will debut Dec. 18 on the Singapore (SIN)–Sydney (SYD) route. Every Airbus A380 will feature the new suite by 2020.
Singapore still faces fierce competition from Etihad Airways, Emirates and Qatar Airways for luxury innovations, including over-the-top features like showers and onboard bars.
Upgrades were made to business and economy class on the new A380 as well. In the new A380 business class, seats fully recline into beds — where in previous versions passengers had to flip the seat over to convert. Economy-class seats will be more readily available, as 10 more spaces were added to the aircraft with more legroom, back support and a six-way adjustable headrest.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
