Earlier this year, COOKFOX Architects announced the opening of Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Long Branch, New Jersey’s, Monmouth University. This new cultural landmark is dedicated to telling the story of music in this country while celebrating Bruce Springsteen’s work within that tradition. The 30,000-square-foot building houses exhibits about the music of Bruce Springsteen and of other American musical genres; the Springsteen archives; a 240-seat auditorium for concerts, academic lectures and video screenings; and gallery space for changing exhibits.
The visionary behind BSCAM is Bob Santelli, founding director. Santelli is well known for telling the story of rock and roll in museums, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
“The origin of this project, what drew me in, was a bond I felt with one of our generation’s greatest storytellers,” said Rick Cook, founding partner, COOKFOX Architects. “That has been the thread through every aspect of the design of the building.”
“As a team we were inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s honesty, bravery and authenticity while designing the visitor experience, the form and proportions of the building, its materiality, the phenomenally high-performing auditorium space, and the relationship of the architecture to the exhibits, archives and content,” added Cook. “I am enormously proud that our work will help to tell the story of American music.”
Conceived as a multiuse destination for exhibitions, education, performance and research, the building’s location references Springsteen’s early years when he performed at Monmouth University many times, and at Asbury Park’s Stone Pony, just a 15-minute drive south of Monmouth University.
The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music is situated across the street from historic Guggenheim Memorial Library at Monmouth University, near the Great Hall at Shadow Lawn. Monmouth University campus in New Jersey was where the singer performed in his early years and where his archives are stored. Clad in weathering steel panels and with an unstained, mass-timber structure, the building’s design was influenced by Bruce Springsteen’s music.
One of the best and most symbolic visuals of the landscape is the music hall is accessed via a boardwalk, a wonderful and not surprising path for walking when visiting “down the shore.”

Oct 23, 2026The Flight Less Taken: Unsung Carriers Whisk You Away to Far-Flung Destinations
The miracle of flight feels slightly less miraculous these days. Endless delays, cramped seating and shortchanged amenities feel par for the course, and one can easily forget the wondrous fact that you’re hurtling above planet Earth, soaring above the clouds and across the skies to your destination of choice. In the olden days, you were limited to the fallibility of your outrigger canoe or horse-drawn carriage. It’s not hyperbolic to invoke the invention of the wheel when reminding oneself to stay calm and carry on in coach.

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons — feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.

Oct 21, 2026Review: Bodysgallen Hall
The National Trust owns more than 500 historic buildings across the United Kingdom, each offering a vivid sense of its particular era. In common with many visitors, I often find myself wondering what it would be like to actually live in such a place. Imagine sitting, for instance, in one of those ancient oak-paneled drawing rooms at night, with the fire roaring and the wind rattling the ancient mullioned windows. I didn’t have to imagine it. Here I was, immersed in history in 17th-century Bodysgallen Hall in North Wales.

Oct 21, 2026How Safe Are Theme Park Rollercoasters? Should We Be More Wary?
No matter your age, we’ve all ventured to an amusement park at one point or another. Whether taking a trip solely to visit a theme park and ride rollercoasters or tacking on an extra day of a trip to enjoy some thrills at a nearby park, it’s nearly impossible to not enter an amusement park. But even the most adrenaline-seeking travelers are starting to pause after the Oct. 12 incident in which 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem fell to his death while riding Goliath rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, a theme park outside of Atlanta. After the tragedy, Six Flags, the country’s largest theme park operator, closed 10 rides across seven states.
