The Loire Valley region of France offers many festivals during summer and fall, with its bountiful gardens in full bloom and festivals, outdoor concerts and events flourishing from town to town. Below are a few of the many taking place in the coming months:
Soiree Blanche au Chateau de Meung, the sixth annual classical music concert, takes place mainly near lovely Château-parc de Meung sur Loire, Aug. 19–20. The castle’s gates open at 8:30 p.m., and visitors, dressed in white, can enjoy a picnic in the park and admire the beautiful sunset.

Taking place every September since 2003, Vignes, Vins, Randos (Sept. 2–3) encompasses 18 three-hour “tasting walks” through the Loire Valley vineyards. Guided by a winemaker, participants can choose to go on one of the 18 treks, all of which include stops for tastings, food and wine pairings and lessons on how wine is made.
Chateau de la Bourdaisière, a 15th-century chateau in the heart of the Loire Valley, is owned by Prince Louis Albert de Broglie (known as “the Prince Gardener”), who transformed this property into a true destination with 25 guestrooms and four apartments. The chateau features a 136-acre park with an outdoor swimming pool; tennis court; jogging path; and incredible vegetable garden with more than 700 varieties of tomatoes, part of its incredible National Tomato Conservatory. Each September, the chateau holds a Tomato Festival (Sept. 9–10) celebrating the number of tomatoes grown on the estate. The festival includes tastings, cooking demonstrations, a competition to make the best ketchup, a giant tomato ball game, a tomato market and vendors such as a micro-brewery in Tours that brews a tomato-and-basil-flavored beer.

The majestic Chateau du Rivau hosts a Pumpkin & Vegetable festival (Sept. 10) each fall, at which guests can revel in the chateau’s pumpkin gardens; sample pumpkin dishes; see incredible pumpkin sculptures; and enjoy entertainment by jugglers, acrobats, magicians and more. Adults can participate in gardening workshops while kids can take part in a gourd-decorating class. Tastings include squash from the kitchen garden, local artisan jams and treats from the gourmet market.
Château Royal de Blois comes alive each summer to create a spectacular 360-degree Sound and Light Show reflected on the façade, retelling tales of Blois’ storied history through video projections and immersive special effects. One of the first sound and light shows created in a courtyard of a French château, this elaborate spectacle was completely revamped in 2018, adding in new technology to bring these stories to life. The show, held this year through Sept. 24, features 1,000 years of turbulent history, including tales from Catherine de’ Medici, François I, the Duke of Guise, Henri III, Joan of Arc and Ronsard.

The Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire hosts its annual International Garden Festival through Nov. 5 this year. The festival has been a major destination for contemporary creation and landscape design since 1992, acting as a breeding ground for new talent. This year’s theme is Resilient Garden, with a focus on climate change. Designers showcase their visions on how to make gardens more sustainable and encourage biodiversity in a creative way.
