Two hotels and one train across Ireland and Scotland invite travelers to indulge in some of the world’s best whiskeys. Through these exceptional experiences, travelers not only taste various whiskeys, but also learn about the whiskey-making process and see parts of the countryside they otherwise might miss.

At Scotland’s The Fife Arms, guests can take part in the recently launched whisky afternoon tea experience. First unveiled in March, this tea experience is available Saturday and Sunday, 2–4 p.m. For about $62 per person, guests enjoy an expert pairing of four whiskies with treats like dark chocolate and mushroom truffle, muscovado cake and peanut shard. The Fife Arms also debuts its own limited-edition, 14-year-old single malt Scotch whisky.
For even more whisky, the hotel’s on-site bar Bertie’s boasts more than 365 whiskies, with around 85 percent hailing from Scotland, including whiskies from distilleries now closed, such as Littlemill, Caperdonich and Pittyvaich. Join Bertie’s team to learn about the illicit distilling industry, with visits related to Scotland’s whisky history. These trips bring guests via a 4×4 to award-winning Glenlivet Distillery, Glenfiddich, Cardhu and more.

Heading to Ireland this year? In County Clare, in the west of Ireland, Dromoland Castle celebrates the art of whiskey bonding with an exclusive tour with whiskey brand JJ Corry’s CEO Louise McCorry. This experience is only available to property guests and includes the creation of a custom blend, as well as a hands-on experience of dipping the bottle in wax to take home.

With train travel on the rise, travelers can combine a journey by train with whisky via Royal Scotsman, A Belmond train, in Scotland. On a four-day trip starting and ending in Edinburgh, guests stop and enjoy sites in Keith, Kyle of Lochalsh, Boat of Garten and Dundeen. Along the way, guests take part in a private tour of Benromach Distillery, a visit to Rothiemurchus Estate and a single-cask whisky tasting with a Whisky Ambassador. Guests also receive a one-year membership to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and a visit to the headquarters.
