Space to Sea, a new photographic exhibition from celebrated marine photographer Keith Ellenbogen, is now on view at New England Aquarium’s Central Wharf in Boston. These new high-resolution works capture the myriad marine life that make the Massachusetts coast home, from great white sharks and humpback whales to sea turtles and North Atlantic right whales.

“Over the last four years, we have watched Keith’s breadth of work evolve and reveal the diversity of our local marine life,” said Michael Triantafyllou, sea grant director, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “This public photography exhibition is a powerful example of how art and science can inspire ocean awareness and stewardship.”

Ellenbogen’s techniques employ both traditional cameras and new technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Fifty of Ellenbogen’s large-scale works have been chosen to wrap the Aquarium’s main building alongside the Harborwalk, as well as the exterior of the Aquarium’s Simons Theatre.

The photographs were taken in the federally protected National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary off the coast of Boston between Cape Ann and Cape Cod, along with waters in the surrounding area. Highlights include a torpedo ray photographed at 100 feet below the surface, microscopic otherworldly planktonic creatures and moments documented while Ellenbogen was free diving with a 17-foot-long, 3,000-pound great white shark.
