Did you ever consider the possibility of carrying a Boeing 747 in your wallet? That dream became a reality with a new introduction from American Express and Delta Air Lines. The two recently launched the first-ever credit card design made with a retired Delta Boeing 747 aircraft.

The card’s launch was celebrated with an event for media at Delta’s Atlanta headquarters. I joined the event, which kicked off with cocktail hour in one of Delta’s hangars, followed by dinner in another retired 747, now transformed into an event space. See more from the night here.
The limited-edition card is available exclusively to Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business card members through Aug. 3, and while supplies last. The card design includes 25 percent metal from Delta Ship #6307 as a way to honor aviation history. Cards come with exclusive content through an augmented reality experience that takes card members through the 747’s history, interviews with Delta pilots and crew, and an up-close look at the plane’s transformation into a credit card design.

Through Aug. 3, Delta SkyMiles American Express card members who apply and are approved for the limited-edition card can earn miles with limited-time-only offers, including earning 100,000 bonus miles by spending $5,000 in purchases on the new card in the first three months. While researching legends for my Hawai‘i-based Dark Paradise Mysteries series (Kensington Books), I learned the tale of the demigod Maui, who used his enchanted fishing hook to reach into the sea to heave the Hawaiian islands, including Diamond Head, above the surface of the water.
