The World Travel & Tourism Council expects tourism to return to 94 percent of its pre-pandemic levels this year, and New York City will be no exception. As the bustling city returns to its pre-pandemic level of activity, many institutions plan to reopen for visitors and locals. In addition to several re-openings, New York City will also boast new hotels this year.
After three years closed due to COVID-19, the American Ballet Theatre makes its grand return to the Metropolitan Opera House stage. Set to return this summer, the American Ballet Theatre will feature performances like Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Don Quixote. New pieces will also make an appearance on the stage, including performative works like Of Love and Rage.
Broadway lovers can also rejoice at the city’s reopening. Originally planned to open in March 2020, Broadway welcomes two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick and two-time Emmy Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker at Hudson Theatre in the classic comedy Plaza Suite. This piece follows three different couples in one famous hotel room.
The long-awaited revival of Funny Girl, starring Ramin Karimloo, Jane Lynch and Beanie Feldstein, will also grace the stage. This work, based on the revived book by Harvey Fierstein, is a musical based in New York City prior to and following World War I. Stephen Sondheim Theatre also announced its return with a new musical adaptation of the beloved comedy Mrs. Doubtfire.
Visitors won’t have to worry about finding a place to stay in the city, with more than 40 hotels opening this year alone. In the Financial District, the newly opened Wall Street Hotel sits near many shops, eateries and historic landmarks, like the Charging Bull and One World Trade Center. From elegant rooms to spacious suites, Wall Street Hotel also boasts several dining and drinking options, as well as more than 4,800 square feet of flexible space for events.
