In the fourth quarter of 2021, Houston welcomed a new luxury accommodation. Nestled within one of the nation’s largest metropolitan cities, Blossom Hotel emits an atmosphere of tranquility. Our visit to the hotel coincided with the property’s soft opening. Upon arrival, we watched the staff unload no less than 10 elegant matching gowns. Apparently, the luxury hotel has already gained the approval of discriminating brides. The spa-like ambiance of the surroundings and professionalism of the staff would certainly be appreciated on the big day.
Orchids adorned the check-in desk and the subtle sounds of water emitted from a fountain in the center of the lobby. The hotel designers paid homage to Houston’s aerospace roots by selecting modern artwork with a lunar theme. The lounge, RendezVu, located on the first floor, evokes Art Deco glam with pale pink high-backed chairs grouped around white marble tables. The floor-to-ceiling display shelves contained an assortment of Asian-inspired decorative items — such as a trio of blue elephants.
Our king suite was as large as many one-bedroom apartments. The living room included a 50-inch smart television, a wet bar with mini fridge, desk, a small dining table, a sofa and additional seating. The bedroom had enough extra space to easily fit a roll-away bed. Some of the guestroom amenities included an in-room safe, two pairs of slippers and robes, and complimentary WiFi. The marble bathroom had a rain shower and was stocked with Acqua Di Parma toiletries. The minimalist design was enhanced with warm wood furniture, dark teal drapery, abstract artwork and an abundance of lighting, which made the room comfortably bright — even during a rainy afternoon.
While the weather didn’t provide us with the opportunity to swim, the hotel does have a rooftop swimming pool and a fitness center. Guests can arrange for the hotel’s complimentary courtesy vehicle to drive them within a three-mile radius. A lovely place to stretch your legs is at Hermann Park, home of the Houston Zoo.
At a still-to-be-determined date, the hotel will open two distinct restaurants in partnership with Michelin-starred chefs Ho Chee Boon and Akira Back. Duck House by Boon will serve a Cantonese-inspired menu with a focus on duck dishes. Chef Back, known for his Asian fare with American influences, will orchestrate a Japanese restaurant called AB Sushi. Currently, the hotel restaurant, Nyota, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests may also opt for in-room dining. On a Tuesday evening, we ate dinner at the hotel — sharing the edamame hummus with sesame oil and fried pita chips along with a scrumptious burger.
Blossom Hotel neighbors Texas Medical Center and is a short drive to NRG Park, which contains a stadium and convention center. In this bustling urban setting, the sophisticated Blossom Hotel creates a cocoon of serenity.
