William P. Hobby Airport recently earned a 5-star international rating by Skytrax World Airport Star Rating for 2022. This achievement makes the airport the only 5-star rated airport not only in Texas but also in North America. Hobby Airport comprises one of just 16 5-star airports across the globe.
“The entire Houston Airports team has worked tirelessly toward reaching this accomplishment at Hobby Airport,” said Mario Diaz, director of aviation. “Providing the highest quality of customer service, exceptional amenities and cutting-edge facilities has earned us five stars at Hobby Airport and an improved 4-Star Rating at Bush Airport, and now we owe it to our passengers to continue delivering excellence at every step of the airport experience.”
Skytrax World Airport Star Rating evaluates airports across the world, giving airports ratings between 1 and 5 stars. An international air transport rating organization, Skytrax World Airport Star Rating doles out reviews following a detailed analysis of different elements that make up each airport, such as facilities and staff service to customers.
Out of the determining 29 categories, Hobby Airport exceeded expectations in all 29 to earn the coveted 5-Star Rating. SkyTrax especially noted the airport’s vast range of guest experience upgrades, like its terminal interiors, customer service initiatives and passenger facilities. Hobby Airport also underwent major additions, including a new children’s play area, modern signage and information systems, state-of-the-art restroom facilities and a prayer room.
“This is a well-deserved and unique distinction for the City of Houston and our airport system,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said. “Hobby Airport stands among the best in the world and this rating proves that being committed to first-class service is a tremendous benefit for Houston and the entire region.”
In addition to Hobby Airport achieving this acclaimed award, its neighbor, George Bush Intercontinental Airport maintained its 4-Star Rating for a fifth consecutive year. As the airport continues to undergo construction to advance the international terminal redevelopment program, George Bush Intercontinental Airport aims to improve its score across the rating categories to earn that 5-Star Rating. The drive to improve this airport only increased as George Bush Intercontinental Airport seeks to make Houston home to two 5-Star-rated airports.
