American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport announced plans for a sixth terminal at the airline’s hub. The airport promises to invest up to $3.5 billion in terminal costs, covering the construction of Terminal F and improvements to Terminal C. Terminal F is slated for a spot south of current Terminal D, with space for up to 24 new gates.

“The new Terminal F and the expansion that could follow will provide the region with the growth it needs to compete with international business centers. The Airport is growing faster than ever, and it needs to keep pace with the Dallas-Fort Worth economy to provide jobs and connections for businesses and families,” said Sean Donohue, CEO, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

“This is an exciting day for American and our more than 31,000 team members who call Dallas-Fort Worth home … DFW is American’s largest hub and a central gateway to our extensive international and domestic network. The plans we’re announcing … will allow for the continued growth of DFW and ensure the airport remains a premier gateway for American for many more years to come,” added Doug Parker, CEO and chairman, American Airlines.

Terminal C is an original terminal built in 1974. Improvements planned bring the terminal up to standards matching those in Terminals A, B and E, which all received renovations in 2018. Improvements include redesigned check-in areas, larger security checkpoints, expanded concessions and new lighting and flooring.
