Last month, car-sharing network Zipcar released the results of its American Summertime Driving survey. The results were no surprise: Americans still love the pastime of summer road trips. The Zipcar survey showed 33 percent of Americans still like driving with their family the most during vacation; 19 percent prefer to travel with friends; and 18 percent prefer riding solo in the morning. Thirteen percent would opt for a sunset drive. While some respondents are drawn to the beach in summer, 41 percent said they would prefer to drive an SUV to the woods or mountains. A mere 32 percent wanted to take a convertible to the beach or a lake. Fourteen percent would want to drive a luxury car around a city, and 12 percent would choose a compact car to explore an urban area. More than 25 percent of respondents said they leave their windows down all year long, and 20 percent said they leave theirs up all year long. The rest said they let the weather dictate. Men and women responded differently in the study, with 35 percent of men wanting to drive through back roads with no destination; 34 percent of women wanted to drive along the beach.
