With the return of large format, in-person meetings and events, Atlantic City rebounded in more ways than one. While the destination received more than 230,000 room nights booked for meetings, conventions, events and motorcoach groups 2021, Meet AC, which creates economic development through conventions, sporting events, film production and group tourism, anticipates more than 23,211 room nights and more than $40 million in future spending in the months to come.

Construction on the all-new North Beach Mini Golf is making headway for its summer 2022 opening. Situated next to the Altman Playground and just a short walk from the Absecon Lighthouse, the mini golf course will feature 18 holes and include historical aspects in its design, calling attention to notable Garden State landmarks and sites.

Following last year’s $15 million casino floor remodel, Ocean Resort Casino has begun construction on a new sports venue, intertwining an entertainment bar and lounge, along with an immersive gaming and sports wagering experience. The $4 million initiative is expected to debut in summer 2022.

The always-popular Atlantic City Airshow, “A Salute to Those Who Serve,” will return to the city Aug. 24, with Meet AC as the event’s premier sponsor. The Atlantic City Airshow is the world’s premier midweek beachfront airshow, drawing more than 500,000 spectators annually. Acts are comprised of multiple military and civilian high-performance aircraft and helicopters from across the country.

Flying in Atlantic City for the first time in five years is the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet “Rhino” East Coast Demo Team, which consists of pilots, weapon systems officers and maintenance crew. The demo flight will fly as close to the “edge of the envelope” as safety allows, while highlighting the mobility, versatility and power of these remarkable fighter planes in maneuvers used during training and combat flights.

Atlantic City is set to add a new attraction to its collection of hotels and casinos with the debut of Island Waterpark, the largest indoor beachfront waterpark in the world. Located at the Showboat Hotel Atlantic City, spanning 103,000 square-feet featuring an array of waterslides, lazy rivers and pools, the waterpark will also feature retail outlets, party rooms and lounge areas, plus a retractable glass roof making it the ideal year-round attraction. The attraction is expected to open by Memorial Day 2023.

Following approval of plans to demolish a property on 151 South New York Avenue, a new six-story, 14-room facility named Cardinal Restaurant & Hotel has begun construction. The new hotel, also expected to open in 2023, is just one of several investments being made in the “Orange Loop,” an area encompassing various properties along St. James, Tennessee and New York Avenues. This will mark the second non-casino project on New York Avenue in the last year following plans to restore the historic Morris Guard Armory property.

Hotel Van Zandt Review

One step onto Austin’s Rainey Street and you’ll feel like you’ve joined the cool kids at the best playground in the city. Just behind the cottage bars, pint-sized skyscrapers soar. One of them, Hotel Van Zandt, the Rainey district's pièce de resistance, beckons with a song-like spirit —apropos because the independently owned property, rife with music motifs, was named after beloved singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Sixteen stories high, the hotel embodies Austin’s lust for music, manifesting with a vinyl corner; trumpet chandeliers; myriad musical references; replica vintage posters in frames; and its own live music venue, which doubles as its acclaimed restaurant, Geraldine’s. Don’t miss the mesmerizing installation of colorful origami-like birds composed from vinyl records that flitter from an old phonograph.
