Come discover more than five centuries of history and culture in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes, where museums, temples and wineries blend with nature and splendid gardens. Located less than a three-hour drive from Guadalajara, here are a few Aguascalientes ideas to add to your travel itinerary:
With original construction dating to 1704, Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption ranks as one of the most important religious icons in Aguascalientes. A prime example of colonial architecture and Solomonic Baroque style, the cathedral has a pair of towers with curved exteriors. Inside, the main building features include plant motifs, an episcopal throne and an ornate choir, along with an image of the Virgin of the Assumption surrounded by white marble.
Vinicola Santa Elena/Santa Elena Winery is regarded as one of central Mexico’s premiere wineries, where production includes varietals such as Nebbiolo, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Visitors can tour the vineyards and enjoy a tasting at the cellar or wine cave.
At Museum of Aguascalientes, constructed in 1903 of pink stone in Neoclassical style, travelers can immerse themselves in local culture via a collection of paintings and sculptures by renowned Mexican artists including Jesus F. Contrerars, Francisco Diaz de Leon, Gabriel Fernandez Ledesma and Saturnino Herran.
For a taste of something otherworldly, a tour of the Temple of San Antonio is a must. Built in a blend of architectural styles ranging from Baroque and Gothic to Arabic and Russian, it was created in stone, reflecting a host of mesmerizing natural colors. Topping it off is a glass Russian dome and immense vaulted ceilings.
Later, unwind and reflect in Jardin de San Marcos, a green haven in city center. Accessed by a stone archway, the park offers a cool, tranquil break with plenty of paths and foliage. The park’s central fountain area is often the site for public events including San Marcos Fair.

May 28, 2025Williamsburg Inn Review
You don’t have to love brass chandeliers or brocade to appreciate what Williamsburg Inn does best: delivering a polished, unpretentious stay amid America’s most iconic living history museum. This is where you check in for traditional luxury without feeling like you’re trapped in a time capsule. The Queen stayed here (twice), and so did Eisenhower, but you’re not here to make history. You’re here to enjoy it, on your own terms.
