You don’t have to love brass chandeliers or brocade to appreciate what Williamsburg Inn does best: delivering a polished, unpretentious stay amid America’s most iconic living history museum. This is where you check in for traditional luxury without feeling like you’re trapped in a time capsule. The Queen stayed here (twice), and so did Eisenhower, but you’re not here to make history. You’re here to enjoy it, on your own terms.

The 62 rooms at Williamsburg Inn are generously sized, immaculately kept, and styled with a chic blend of Regency inspiration and real-world functionality. You’ll find high-thread-count linens, curated antiques and smartly arranged furnishings that make the most of the large spaces. Book a suite if you want even more room to spread out, but all rooms include marble bathrooms, plush robes and slippers, and evening chocolates with a complimentary nightcap (and quote from a famous former guest).

While the elegant inn may exude buttoned-up grandeur from first approach, it’s also refreshingly unpretentious with staff attentive to serious quality without being stiff. Expect to be greeted by name, offered real recommendations and quietly taken care of from check-in to check-out. Be sure to take advantage of more than just your room, spending time in communal spaces like a cozy lounge for cocktails, wide brick terraces with rocking chairs for late afternoon unwinding and a library stocked with titles that lean more scholarly escape than beach read.

Outside are two seasonal pools and you’ll have access to neighboring Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, home to two championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Rees Jones.

The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg is refreshingly free of gimmicks. Treatments are built around serious skill and time-tested botanicals, many sourced from regional herbs and plants. The 20,000-square-foot facility includes steam rooms, relaxation lounges, a vitality pool and a well-equipped fitness center.

Rockefellers presents a polished, formal dining experience reflecting Williamsburg Inn’s reputation for quiet sophistication. The current à la carte dinner menu includes upscale classics like oysters Rockefeller, beef tartare, brioche-crusted Alaskan halibut and butter-poached Maine lobster. Sunday and holiday brunches are served in the Terrace and Goodwin Rooms, and offer updated regional classics including a crab and caviar omelet and rotating takes on eggs Benedict. House-baked breads and pastries are an ideal start, as are selections from the approachable list of brunch cocktails. Seasonal afternoon tea in the Terrace Room is a highlight, if you can score a table. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended for these popular events.

Booking a room at Williamsburg Inn gives you more than a bed; it brings proximity and access. You’re steps from the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, and your stay includes admission.

Hôtel de Sers Reopens in Paris

One of Paris’ most elegant addresses has reopened following a full renovation. Hôtel de Sers, part of the B Signature Hotels & Resorts portfolio, was once the private mansion of Henri-Léopold Charles, Marquis de Sers. Located within the illustrious Triangle d’Or, close to the Champs-Élysées and Avenue Montaigne, the property’s refined décor and original Haussmannian architectural elements have been carefully preserved. These include a spectacular marble staircase and the structure’s original carriage entrance, along with period features such as wrought-iron details and magnificent moldings and ceilings of the original salon de réception.

Global City Guidebook: Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is not only one of the capitals of South Africa but also the oldest city in the country. Cape Town hugs the Port of Cape Town in Table Bay, extending to the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The city endured years of segregation during apartheid, including uprisings. Today the city continues to rebound in a post-apartheid era, with many major companies headquartered in the city center, popular beaches teeming with visitors in warmer months, engaging museums and aquariums, and a thriving tourist industry promoting the city’s culture and natural beauty.
