The Washington, D.C. icon The Watergate Hotel has been closed to guests since 2007. But last month, the landmark reopened to guests with a black-tie soiree, showcasing $125 million in renovations. The hotel doesn’t shy away from its history, which includes the 1972 break-in of the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters inside the hotel and its ties to the fall of President Richard Nixon. Subtle (or not-so) touches include pens that say “Stolen from The Watergate Hotel” and key cards that read “no need to break in.” Luxury is also embraced at the redone hotel, originally opened in 1965. The renovations restored some of the original features, including the grand staircase and mosaic-tiled saltwater indoor pool. There’s also a new whisky bar in the lobby and new Mid-Century Modern design elements such as custom furniture that evokes the building’s exterior curves. Executive chef Michael Santoro is serving American dishes with French influences, and there’s also an Asian street food vendor at a rooftop lounge with a panoramic view. Later this summer, the pool area will debut the Argentta Spa, which wasn’t quite ready for the opening party.

Jan 15, 2025Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa Review
Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa is an award-winning resort on Coconut Road in Bonita Springs, Florida, on the Gulf Coast between Naples and Fort Myers. The property, with 26 acres of tropical landscaping, multiple water slides and numerous dining venues, is a beautiful resort. Last month, I brought my 13-year-old grandson to the property for two days of water-sliding in balmy mid-December weather.
