Who doesn’t love a magical mechanical clock or a finely crafted timepiece? While millions of tourists continue to be mesmerized by the great clocks found in cities including Bern, Munich and Zürich, the market for Swiss- and German-made watches remains strong. Zicasso Handcrafted Travel designed a new tour allowing travelers to indulge in both spectrums of timekeeping with the behind-the-scenes Nine-Day Luxury Watchmakers Tour of Switzerland and Germany.

The journey includes a tower tour to see the inner workings of Bern’s famous astronomical clock, said to have played a role in the development of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Other highlights include lessons in watch-making at the Haute Horlogerie workshop; a visit to the flagship store of Franck Muller; exhibits at the Museum of the International Watch Company; observing artisan watchmakers working at Audemars Piguet Museum in Le Brassus; and visiting the world’s largest cuckoo clock while learning about the handcrafting of these iconic clocks in Germany’s Black Forest. And, of course, time to indulge in a Swiss chocolate workshop experience.
