Virgin Atlantic is the first United Kingdom carrier to participate in the TSA PreCheck program. TSA PreCheck allows eligible passengers to access an accelerated screening process when departing U.S. airports.

The popular service lets members who pay $85 for five years, or $17 per year, breeze through security at more than 180 U.S. airports. Qualifying customers who enter a valid Known Traveler Number or Customs and Border Protection-issued PASSID in their flight reservations and are pre-approved will see a PreCheck indicator on their boarding passes.

Customers will be led to PreCheck lanes within the airport’s security screening area to proceed through a quicker screening process. The accelerated process removes the need for travelers to remove shoes, light jackets or belts, laptops and liquids from their bags.

To be eligible for the program, travelers must be a member of one of the following: TSA PreCheck members, open to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents; Global Entry members, open to U.K. and U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents and eligible citizens in certain countries; NEXUS members, open to citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States or Canada; SENTRI members, open to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents; or the U.S. Armed Forces service members.

Ten other airlines, like Emirates, Avianca, Spirit and other smaller airlines, will also accept TSA PreCheck.
