In a statement last week, United Airlines introduced its new United Polaris business class. The unique experience is created for international flights and aims to transform the current business class. “United Polaris will change the game in international business travel with an exceptional level of relaxation and comfort throughout our customers’ journeys. This completely reconceived experience exemplifies the new spirit of United and the innovation, excitement and operational momentum across our airline,” said Oscar Munoz, president and CEO, United Airlines. Guests in Polaris experience a custom and exclusive seat created to give each passenger direct aisle access, a 180-degree recline and bed space measuring 6 feet, 6 inches. The individual private spaces feature mood lighting, storage areas, separate spaces for working and dining, a 16-inch entertainment screen and electronic privacy dividers for center-cabin seats. The bedding is designed by Saks Fifth Avenue and includes duvets, day blankets, two pillows and optional mattress cushions and gel-cooled pillows. United Polaris pajamas are offered on flights longer than 12 hours, and slippers are offered on all flights. New amenity kits include eye shades, a lavender pillow mist and products from Cowshed Spa. The Polaris dining experience features a pre-departure beverage alongside gourmet chocolate. Seasonal in-flight menus are created by acclaimed chefs and served alongside carefully chosen wines. Guests can also order made-to-order ice cream sundaes and treats from the dessert cart. Flights longer than eight hours offer hot mid-flight snacks. In the coming months, United plans to open nine United Polaris business-class lounges in Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Houston (IAH), New York (ERW), Washington Dulles (IAD), Tokyo Narita (NAR), Hong Kong (HKG) and London (LHR). The first will open Dec. 1 in Chicago, with the rest following next year. The new lounges will include custom chairs, daybeds, spa showers and a boutique restaurant setting. Polaris business class will debut on flights beginning in December on Boeing 777-3000ER aircraft and later on Boeing 787-10, Airbus A350-1000, Boeing 767-300 and Boeing 777-2000 aircraft.
