Uber account holders can now take a helicopter between New York’s midtown Manhattan and JFK airport. Previously, the company only offered the service to Uber Platinum and Diamond members.
The service, Uber Copter, officially started in July. It’s now an option for any Uber user willing to pony up the $200–225 tab (one-way) for the eight-minute flight between JFK and lower Manhattan.
“Uber Copter can change the way you travel, offering door-to-door airport trips designed so you can spend less time stressed and even less time in traffic,” the ride-hailing company said.
Travelers can use Uber ground transportation to get to and from the heliport. Meanwhile, trips from below Houston Street and some areas along the West Side Highway are folded into the price of the helicopter trip.
There are two helicopters in service through a company called HeliFlite, operating the service for Uber Copter. Both helicopters can fit six people, with one carry-on bag and one personal item each.
The rides are offered on weekdays during peak rush hour.
