Ride-hailing company Uber added a new category that allows customers to personalize their ride. The new Comfort option means riders have access to higher-end amenities — at a premium.
The new category allows riders access to newer, midsized cars with extra legroom. They can also customize things like temperature in the vehicle and whether or not they want to talk to their drivers or play music. The option “was built for riders who are constantly on the go and want a little extra comfort,” according to a press statement.
Uber drivers need a customer rating of 4.85 or higher to be part of the Comfort pool. It’s been rolled out in a dozen U.S. cities. Comfort rides are about 30 percent more expensive than standard ones.
Uber also announced the launch of Uber Copter, which brings passengers from lower Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport in eight minutes for $200.
Flight are available on weekday afternoons and serviced by HeliFlite. Uber Copter will appear as an option on the Uber app when Platinum and Diamond-status travelers are taking a trip in the vicinity of the heliport near the West Side Highway or to and from the airport.
