According to recent research released by Tourism Economics, the rate at which international travelers visit the United States rose by only 2 percent.
The data from Tourism Economics also shows visitation to the United States from Asia and the Pacific region dropped by 0.9 percent, and visitors from Canada decreased by 9 percent. However, visitation increased among travelers from the Middle East and Mexico, although not as high as 2013 levels.
Reasons for such drops point to increased interest in traveling to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, both of which saw 6 percent increases. When analyzing the Asia-specific decline, reasons could possibly point to the recent trade issues between the United States and China.
Increased visitation to the United States was highest among travelers from Spain, Italy, Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Argentina.
Tourism Economics doesn’t predict a rosy 2019 travel year for the United States either, with an expensive U.S. dollar and a shaky global economic future.
