More airports in the United States are building hotels attached to their terminals. They also include private security checkpoints and luggage retrieval services.
These options bring in more revenue for airports and allow travelers easy access. The newest is the 300-room InterContinental Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Hotel, which joins on-site hotels at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Denver International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Detroit Wayne County International Airport, Orlando International Airport and Miami International Airport.
“The hotel serves as an extension of the airport’s goal to provide the best ‘Orlando Experience’ possible and is a wonderful amenity for all airport customers,” said Orlando International Airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell. “It is also a significant driver of the airport’s annual revenues.”
Recently, the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel underwent a $15 million renovation. It has conference rooms, day passes for non-guests, a fitness center and pool with runway views, a TSA security checkpoint attached to the lobby, and gate passes for guests who want to eat or shop in the airport terminal.
Other forthcoming hotels in airports include a Grand Hyatt at San Francisco International Airport and an InterContinental Hotel at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
