Explore one of the world’s newest UNESCO-designated biospheres with Ecuador’s Tropic Journeys in Nature. The award-winning tour company, established in 1994, leads journeys through some of the country’s most engaging landscapes, including the newly designated Macizo de Cajas biosphere.
“It is gratifying when a prestigious organization like UNESCO recognizes what we’ve known for years, and that’s the importance of this region,” said Jascivan Carvalho, owner, of Tropic Journeys in Nature.
The Macizo de Cajas zone includes 232 lakes scattered through almost 4,000 square miles in four provinces (Azuay, Cañar, Guayas and El Oro) and such protected areas as Cajas National Park, the national protection and recreation Quimsacocha and coastal area.
Ecuador’s newest biosphere joins previously designated zones: Podocarpus-El Condor, Yasuni, Sumaco and the Galapagos Islands.
