I try to make charity part of my everyday life, mostly through my personal and professional work with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. But giving back comes in many forms, and I always jump at the chance to support the initiatives of my friends and family. A beautiful spring weekend in April afforded me just such an opportunity, as my friend Natalie Aloan participated in the 10th annual National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, D.C. The Epilepsy Foundation is near and dear to Natalie as she was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy at age 26 and had a right temporal lobectomy and hippocampectomy at 32. Today, she is both seizure-and medication-free. Another friend and I decided this was the perfect opportunity to support her as she walked in her third event, cheering her on as she crossed the finish line. Next year we plan to join her on the walk, which loops the Tidal Basin and other famous D.C. landmarks. And I hope next year the cherry blossoms stick around for our visit!
