U.K.–based tour experts England Originals launched five new itineraries as pre-built routes or customizable tours. Offered by England’s Historic Cities, tours of Oxford include some of the country’s most history-steeped locations and World Heritage Sites enhanced by modern technology, with an augmented reality option available via England’s Historic Cities app that projects a 3-D model of Oxford onto a tabletop so travelers can literally get their bearings prior to arriving.

Visitors can choose one or combine more than one tour to create a customized expedition. Thinkers and Writers takes in Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford, the tomb of the notorious Bad King John at Worcester Cathedral and the literature-rich Christ Church College at Oxford University, the birthplace of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland stories. The Time Travellers Tour includes visits to Greenwich, Canterbury and Cambridge that delve into tales of monarchs, naval heroes, saints and sea explorers.

Guests on the Treasure Trove Tour explore the cities of Durham, York and Lincoln after departing London from Kings Cross station — home to Harry Potter’s infamous Platform 9 ¾. Along the way, there are plenty of Medieval winding streets, Viking sites and the steepest coffee shops in England on “Britain’s Best Street.” The towns of Chester, Lancaster and Carlisle are highlights on the Wall to Wall Tour, where stops include ancient Roman walls, Britain’s oldest courtroom and the country’s most besieged castle. During the Western Wonders Tour, participants have breakfast on the beach, bathe in Roman springs and explore Stonehenge and the towns of Truro, Bath and Salisbury.
