Situated overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and next to Vilamoura Marina in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura Algarve Resort reopened following an extensive redesign and refurbishment. The major revamp introduces a contemporary and sophisticated new look to all guestrooms, the entrance lobby and Argo Cocktail Bar, as well as newly landscaped gardens and a redesigned pool.
Tivoli Marina Vilamoura reopened after a four-month renovation with a new nautical and contemporary design inspired by Algarvian beaches, the marina and the Atlantic Ocean. In the 383 bedrooms and 21 suites, soft beige tones, striped fabrics and natural materials aim to reflect the views, creating a relaxed atmosphere and a perfect harmony between exterior scenery and interior design.
The 527-square-foot family rooms come with an exterior lounge area and terrace, combining wood with sand-colored textures and rattan finishes with sophisticated table lamps. The revamped Vilamoura Suite now includes the choice of a V.I.P. experience, such as dinner for two at Pepper’s Steakhouse with beverages; an 80-minute treatment at Tivoli Spa; or sun loungers for two at Purobeach, the adjoining beach club open April–October.
The lobby has been redesigned using a range of natural materials, with wood, fabrics and textures in neutral tones mixed with nautical blues. A large tropical garden in the center brings outside in and makes the space feel more intimate. Glee Boutique Café has also been given a makeover with a palette of natural tones, which complement the new look and feel of the lobby and better showcases the pastries, chocolates and colorful macarons.
Renewed Voyage restaurant, where breakfast is served, has a sophisticated French Riviera style, with vertical blue stripes, wooden chairs and bamboo details mixed with floral and geometric patterns, paying homage to the Moorish influences typical in the south of Portugal.
Argo Cocktail Bar is now more glamorous than ever, with richer tones, satin textures and golden details. The balcony, with a prime view over the marina, has new décor accentuating light woods and natural textures, just a step away from the hotel’s well-known restaurant, Pepper’s Steakhouse, specializing in the best cuts of meat accompanied by an impressive wine list.
The resort is well placed for easy access to Algarve beaches; boat tours; golf courses; walking trails at Ria Formosa Natural Park; and cultural discoveries in Loulé town with local artisans and its various arts like tile/dish painting, tapestry or basketry. Tivoli Marina Vilamoura also has the 25,833-square-foot Tivoli Spa, where guests can indulge in exclusive face and body therapies with local organic ingredients.
Rates at Tivoli Marina Vilamoura start from $330 for a premium room, including breakfast for two people.

Sep 6, 2024Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise
The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

Sep 4, 2024The Shelbourne Review
Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
