TAP Air Portugal registered more than 10 percent growth in 2018 after carrying a record number of passengers globally.
TAP’s North American routes account for a large percentage of the growth. Routes to and from North America grew 9.6 percent and carried 70,000 more passengers than 2017. North American routes carried 800,000 total passengers.
Europe is still TAP’s bread and butter, though. In 2018, 932,000 additional passengers flew European routes. The increase accounts for a 10.7 percent increase in the European market, meaning nearly 10 million people flew TAP in Europe.
The airline’s biggest region for growth is Africa, which sent more than 1.1 million passengers in 2018, accounting for an increase of 11.3 percent. TAP transported 1.7 million passengers between Portugal and Brazil for 7.8 percent growth to the country.
In terms of available seats and demand, TAP grew by 12.3 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively.
TAP is Portugal’s leading airline. Its network comprises 84 destinations in 34 countries worldwide, which it serves with 2,500 weekly flights. TAP proper operates 63 Airbus aircraft and TAP Express operates 17 more.
