A new study released by Monograms sheds light on how travelers feel about leisure travel in foreign destinations. The survey was conducted with the help of 1,168 travelers.
The study revealed 63 percent of travelers consider international travel more stressful than domestic. Those surveyed said there were four factors that most contributed to their stress while traveling — transportation issues (either to and from the airport or around an unfamiliar city), poor accommodations, language barriers and getting lost. It’s to be noted all four of these stressors can be avoided with individual action, forethought and planning, and aren’t always particularly related to any individual brand or other factors outside of a traveler’s realm of control. Regardless, these same travelers, up to 85 percent of them, are willing to pay more money to avoid these stressful issues; 52 percent said they would pay more than $500 to do so.
“Traveling the world can be an amazing — and even better — an exciting and memorable experience! It should be. You just have to know how to do it right,” said Steve Born, vice president of marketing, Globus brands.
In addition, travelers also mentioned the top four aspects of travel that could make their experience easier and more free of stress. These included centrally located hotels, pre-planned transportation, help from a local expert and easy access to the most popular sites in their destination.
