It’s true the United States is packed to the gills with haunted places, but, if you’re willing to do a little digging, you will find creepy places and hauntings rumored at famous destinations all over the world. Here are just a few.

The Tower of London

Perhaps most recognizable as one of the most infamous prisons in the world 1100–1952, the Tower of London actually served as a royal residence for a lot of its history.

With such a storied history, it’s unsurprising the tower is rumored to be home to a few ghosts. Anne Boleyn is said to prowl the White Tower, where she is buried, carrying her own head.

Other reported spirits include famous rulers of England and even a bear. The Tower of London is one of the most famous tourist attractions, so arrange a visit to the Tower on your next visit to the city.

The Coliseum

Similar to The Tower of London, the Coliseum was home to some vicious violence.

The Coliseum, an amphitheater in the center of Rome, was used for demonstrations ranging as mild as drama performances to violent uses, including the hunting of animals and gladiatorial combat.

The structure’s violent history lends itself to rumors of haunting. Tourists and staff reported a number of spooky happenings around the coliseum, including hearing the non-existent crowd cheer, hearing anxious gladiators waiting for their turn to fight and the sounds of animals coming from would-be cages.

The Coliseum is widely accessible to tourists traveling to Rome.

Aokigohara

Aokigohara, or the Suicide Forest, might be the outright creepiest destination on this list. The forest is situated at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. The forest is, as its name implies, a popular destination for suicide. A recent horror film, The Forest, used the location as its subject.

In Japanese history, the forest is believed to be home to Japanese spirits of the dead and remains a popular destination for tourists.

Mindfulness City in Kingdom of Bhutan Unveiled as Future Economic Hub

In front of an audience of 30,000 Kingdom of Bhutan residents and officials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck presented his vision for a new economic hub in Bhutan. Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu, its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.
