If you need an excuse to run off to Spain for a late summer getaway, here it is: The magnificent Don Carlos Marbella is once again open in the wake of a $52 million renovation with a design led by Jaime Beriestain. Drawing upon the essence of Andalusia as his inspiration, Beriestain selected natural materials such as stone, wood and raffia, while also incorporating elements from Parisian brasseries and classic 17th-century furnishings with a contemporary spin.

Throughout, the interplay dynamic between light and edges is highlighted, creating a bespoke and luxurious setting that honors the property’s storied past.
An international seaside landmark for luxury since 1969, when it was known as Hotel Don Carlos, the property encompasses 308 refined rooms, suites and residences; a full-service Natura Bissé spa; and four new food and beverage options, including two beach clubs.

It’s also the location of Spain’s first Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre. The tennis center boasts nine courts, including seven clay and two padel courts with ocean views, as well as a Pro Shop stocked with Nike and Babolat products and gear. Thanks to training programs based on Nadal’s own Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar methodology and The Wingfield System — an innovative system that tracks, analyzes and provides insights on performance — guests can hone their skills in one of the most beautiful settings along the Mediterranean’s Costa del Sol.
Wellness pursuits are at the forefront, as demonstrated by the unveiling of the new indoor spa, replete with the soothing scent of Andalusian orange blossoms and a selection of mind and body therapies designed to restore harmony. More than 5,000 square feet has been devoted to this wellness haven, including a thermal area with sauna, steam bath, aromatherapy cabin, “temple” of showers, and a full water circuit that features a contrast pool of hot and cold water.

Indulge in a signature spa treatment such as the Mindtouch Experience Ritual or Golden South Essence Massage, then soak in the sunlight to your heart’s content on the Solarium Terrace. Premium meeting space is also available, while dining options include fine dining at Los Naranjos, Sol & Sombra beside the pool; light fare at Break Point café near the tennis center; and handcrafted cocktails at Campari Bar Manero, set within a memorable space designed by interior designer Lázaro Rosa Violán. There’s also Nikki Beach Marbella Club and the Lucia Summer Club 2025 by Nikki Beach pop-up in the beach area, making sure you’re never too far from refreshment.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
