In May, Southwest Airlines and Amadeus IT Group unveiled the final version of their collaborative project by way of a new and complete Passenger Service System. The Amadeus Altéa PSS is now functional in 101 domestic and international airports across the world, a service that, since its initial launch in December, had only been active in international airports.
As of May 8, all Southwest employees are using Altéa to manage reservations. New features include the capability to rebook passengers in the case of flight disruption or change; to cut down on the time between flight connections; to offer red-eye flights for longer journeys; and to vary flight schedules from week to week, presenting increased schedule options to frequent travelers, especially business travelers.
America’s largest carrier managed to keep costs low in a competitive market, and the new PSS joins Southwest’s other initiative to cease overbooking flights in an attempt to make travel as convenient and traveler-friendly as possible.
