Southwest Airlines now offers customers the option to purchase early boarding positions for $40 per flight. Passengers can pay to jump into the “A” boarding group at the gate on the day of travel. Southwest has open and boards aircraft by dividing customers into three boarding groups. Beginning 45 minutes before departure, an announcement will be made in the gate area if there is space available. Customers can then buy an available boarding position via credit card from a customer service agent. Only customers who purchase a business-select fare guarantee a spot in the A group.
