Lake Tahoe’s Homewood Mountain Resort plans to debut Homewood Snowcat Adventures this winter, a Bombardier snowcat complete with a 12-person carrier designed to ferry adventurous skiers and snowboarders to back-country terrain.
Pending final approval from the U.S. Forest Service, the new service will transport guests to the terrain on the flanks of Ellis Peak, above the resort’s traditional ski boundaries. Groups of up to 10 skiers will have guided access to a wide variety of terrains; guides are trained by the North American Ski Training Center. Laps from the 8,740-foot summit of Ellis Peak offer panoramic views of the area.
Reservations are being accepted for guided snowcat/snowboarding packages on select days throughout the 2014–2015 ski season. All-day packages begin at $399 per person per day; Homewood season pass holders enjoy $100 off the price. All participants must be advanced skiers or snowboarders during normal operations.
Homewood Mountain Resort has been one of Lake Tahoe’s premier recreations resorts since 1961.
