To help meet growing demand, Singapore will add a fifth terminal at Changi Airport. The city plans to have the new terminal operational by 2030.
The airport, Asia’s second-busiest, has undergone several expansions. A record 65.6 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2018, up 5.5 percent over the previous year. That’s expected to keep going up; the International Air Transport Association said passenger traffic in the Asian Pacific region will more than double over the next two decades.
Another recent expansion is set to open this month, Jewel Changi Airport. It’s a shopping and retail attraction attached to the airport that includes an early check-in area, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, walking trails, canopy mazes and slides.
Changi is also remodeling other terminals to accommodate larger numbers of people. It’s also automating its baggage system.
As a whole, Singapore underwent other infrastructure projects to improve its status with visitors, including a new port opening in 2021.
