We love Rome any day of the week in any century, but if you happen to be partial to the 1800s, you’re in luck: Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese just introduced the new XIX Century Experience. Newly redesigned by French architect Jean-Phillipe Nuel, the hotel teamed up with leading Italian tour operator Imago Artis Travel to offer a private walking tour revealing the city through such literary celebrities as John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Johann Wolfgang Goethe.
During the tour, travelers visit the Keats–Shelly House, where the permanent exhibition includes manuscripts by each poet, along with relics (including Edward Trelawny’s dagger), art and personal belongings. The house-turned-museum can be found at the foot of the Spanish Steps and was where John Keats passed away at the tender age of 25. The bedroom where he slept has been completely preserved.
Other stops include Casa di Goethe, where the writer’s works and art collection are on display, including Andy Warhol’s famous Goethe portrait, and Canova Tadolini, where there’s time to relax among a collection of Roman statues and refresh with a glass of Prosecco or coffee.
In addition to the XIX Century Experience, guests can also book a vintage car with a picnic to enjoy on one of Rome’s seven hills, or these activities: Rome at Night — a drive through the glittering city after the sun goes down to view iconic lighted monuments including Fontana dell’Acqua Paola and Giardino degli Aranci; a tour through the historic Trastevere district to visit Farmacia dei Papi, Europe’s oldest known apothecary; or a day-long expedition through the countryside to take in vineyards, with stops at Pallavicini and Cantina Santa Benedetta.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
