Breathe the sweetness that hovers in August. — Denise Levertov
Levertov was a prolific British-born, naturalized American poet, and a quote from her seemed a fitting way to kick off our August issue and say a bittersweet goodbye to the traditional season of summer travel. While summer technically sticks around until Sept. 21 (and in recent years, so have those summer temperatures!), in the travel world Labor Day weekend typically signals the end of summer travel as we think of it.

This summer has felt like the summer of awards! In June we announced and celebrated our Leisure Lifestyle Awards. In this issue we bring you the winners of our ninth annual The Trazees, awarded by the readers of our sister web publication trazeetravel.com, and the second annual Industry Leader Awards, brought to you by the FXExpress Publications, Inc. family of brands. Turn to pages 40 and 36, respectively, for those announcements.
Most of the team ended summer attending the Global Business Travel Association’s annual convention in Dallas, Texas. Business travel is back, having made its triumphant return only a bit slower than leisure travel, and we’re thrilled to join industry colleagues to celebrate. On page 20 hear more from GBTA’s CEO, Suzanne Neufang.
Personally, my summer travel ended with a trip “down the shore,” as those native to the Philadelphia area dub our vacations to the Jersey shore. My husband and
I split our time with family in Ocean City, New Jersey, before a weekend “babymoon” in Cape May, where we spent our 2020 COVID honeymoon. That’s right, our summer and fall (and probably winter and spring) travel will look just a bit different, as we’re expecting our first child next month! My baby bump wasn’t quite as big as it is now when we took this month’s photo on a Memorial Day getaway to the Poconos.
Travel with us on the following pages to Cusco, Peru; Dallas; Prague; Cartagena, Colombia; Bali; Amsterdam; Cape Town; Joshua Tree, California; the Islands of Tahiti; and India’s Taj Mahal. There’s so much to enjoy in this issue. Next month, sail with us for our annual Cruising Issue. Until then, breathe in the sweetness of travel!

Sep 17, 2026High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture
It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
