Saudi Arabian Airlines is ending all flights to and from Canada as of last month after comments from Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and other government officials.

The national carrier said it is ending its flights, which all route through Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to the capital city of Riyadh and Jeddah. The airline is covering cancellation fees and issuing refunds, as well as finding alternative flights for travelers already booked.

Canadian officials commented about human rights issues around Saudi Arabia’s arrests of activists. The country also expelled Canada’s ambassador and recalled its own.

“Canada will always stand up for the protection of human rights, including women’s rights and freedom of expression around the world,” Freeland said in response via CNN.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry released a statement questioning Canada’s position.

“The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed disbelief by this negative unfounded comment, which was not based in any accurate or true information,” said the statement. “It is quite unfortunate to see the phrase ‘immediate release’ in the Canadian statement, which is a reprehensible and unacceptable use of language between sovereign states.”
