Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection recently revealed the results of its annual State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report for 2026. Polymath Research + Marketing conducts the study on the safest destinations around the world. The report is based on data from multiple sources, including the U.S. State Department and safety app GeoSure Global. Past rankings also factor into this year’s list.
The top 10 safest countries for 2026:
- Netherlands
- Australia
- Austria
- Iceland
- Canada
- New Zealand
- United Arab Emirates
- Switzerland
- Japan
- Ireland
The top 10 safest cities for 2026 are:
- Reykjavik, Iceland
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Zürich, Switzerland
- Amsterdam, the Netherlands
- Honolulu, Hawai’i
- Sydney, Australia
- Barcelona, Spain
- Lisbon, Portugal
- Tokyo, Japan
- Dublin, Ireland
The Netherlands saw the largest year-over-year jump from 14th place to first place. Austria made its debut on the list this year. Reykjavik ranked in the top city spot for the second consecutive year. Read more about the country and city rankings.
