ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: Standing 16 stories tall in the southwest corner of Leicester Square, The Londoner reflects an urban resort with precise attention to detail. The lobby greeted us with a dimly lit, spacious oasis brought to life through a talented pianist and vocalist entertaining the crowd.

Overlooking The Stage and Champagne Bar, guests enjoyed afternoon tea, house-made pastries and bubbly from the bar’s reserve Champagne collection. Prior to checking into our room, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Whitcomb’s, the chic, on-site
Mediterranean-style restaurant, blending flavors from France, Greece and Italian coastlines.

GUEST QUARTERS: Inspired by loft-style residences, the open-plan bedroom in our Corner Suite welcomed us with plenty of space for two. Our two-night stay featured wood-like paneling adorning the closet, coffee nook and walls, complemented by neutral color tones woven into the room’s details. In addition to the handcrafted mattress and smart TV with Google Chromecast, my favorite touch was the retro-looking Roberts Bluetooth radio and speaker accompanying the king-sized bed. Across sat one of two dedicated work spaces, also doubling as an ideal lookout on London’s West End through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The blue-tiled bathroom left us oohing and aahing for the remainder of our stay. The vanity illuminated the room with its bright, theater-style mirror, lined with several built-in shelves and (my favorite) a Dyson hair dryer. Across from the deep bathtub were a shower and Japanese Toto washlet complete with a heated seat, jet wand cleanser and sensor-activated lid.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: Behind the lobby and up the stairs sits one of three residents-only spaces. Home to a vast selection of board games, books, magazines and areas to lounge and work, The Drawing Room truly embodies the classic living room feeling. We both enjoyed a glass of Champagne in addition to complimentary snacks and soft drinks. Two other spaces designed just for hotel residents include The Y Bar and The Whisky Room, a speakeasy-style parlor home to one of London’s most exclusive whiskey collections.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • The Londoner Hotel is considered the world’s first super-boutique hotel thanks to its large scale of luxury amenities while comprising a modern, intimate setting.
  • Each suite key grants access to guaranteed round-the-clock services through the hotel’s reception and concierge team via WhatsApp.
  • The Retreat is a collection of on-site experiences designed to help relax, rejuvenate and reset. Custom curated facials, massages and red-light therapy sessions are available in addition to full access to the gym; hair and beauty salon; and Refuel, a health-centered food and drink bar.

The Flight Less Taken: Unsung Carriers Whisk You Away to Far-Flung Destinations

The miracle of flight feels slightly less miraculous these days. Endless delays, cramped seating and shortchanged amenities feel par for the course, and one can easily forget the wondrous fact that you’re hurtling above planet Earth, soaring above the clouds and across the skies to your destination of choice. In the olden days, you were limited to the fallibility of your outrigger canoe or horse-drawn carriage. It’s not hyperbolic to invoke the invention of the wheel when reminding oneself to stay calm and carry on in coach.
