ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: My colleague and I stayed at SLS Brickell Miami last fall, located in the neighborhood of Brickell near dozens of cafés and restaurants. The building’s colorful architecture fascinated us both as we drove through the valet area and were greeted at the door by a friendly bellman. The front desk was accommodating and attentive with information about both the property and its surrounding areas. We were thrilled to find we were only a 10-minute walk from Brickell City Center, one of our favorite spots to shop in all of Miami.
GUEST QUARTERS: As I stepped out of the elevator, black- and-white-striped walls led me through the corridors to the entrance of my Premier King room. Inside, I discovered a sleek and sophisticated room and was drawn to the patterned carpeting and glow of the lights that emphasized the minibar. The Philippe Starck-designed room presented a sexy yet minimalist vibe utilizing a pink, black and white palette paired with art and mirrors galore. The bed sat in the middle of the room, with a desk on the rear side equipped with an espresso machine and a minibar next to the door leading to the large balcony overlooking the skyline of Brickell.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: The stunning SLS Altitude Pool deck offers a luxurious urban oasis featuring two refreshing infinity pools, a fully equipped bar, comfortable chaise longues and shaded cabanas. Huge flower pots holding shrubs make up the outside wall of the deck and are also interspersed among the lounge chairs. The atmosphere and the city view make SLS’s pool deck my top choice in Miami, offering a refreshing experience mixed with fun and relaxation. During my stay a vibrant, giant rubber duck statue stood at the western edge of the rooftop; an artist was decorating it for Art Basel, changing it to reflect Miami trends.
Fi’lia, the on-site restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as weekend brunch and DJ sets. Guests can enjoy dishes from the wood-fired oven and grill, handmade pizzas and pasta. The restaurant celebrates the essence of a fresh and pure approach to food and drink served in an unpretentious setting.
SLS helps guests keep up with fitness goals and routines with a full-sized gym featuring all the favorite workout essentials in three rooms: one for larger cardio and cable machines, followed by a space with dumbbells leading into a yoga and meditation room. No need to stress over finding a gym when you have access to this one!

- Great for a couple’s getaway
- A spectacular location in the heart of downtown Brickell

Sep 23, 2023When the Sun Goes Down, the Party Begins on Mykonos
There is something magical about sipping a glass of local wine while watching the sun slip into the Aegean Sea as the afterglow tinges traditional, white-washed Cycladic houses with glorious shades of rose, purple and gold. Ancient Greeks believed Helios, the Sun God, caused sunsets by driving his fiery chariot into the sea. Standing at water’s edge in Mykonos, watching the sky slowly turn from purple to inky black, you almost believe it.

Sep 22, 2023Cruise Alaska for Awe-Inspiring Adventures to Delight All Ages
I hadn’t even made it to my first cup of coffee when I got an early phone call from my sister, who lives two time zones away. “OMG, Kristy, Patsy Cline came on twice while I was driving the kids to school today,” she laughed. “You know what that means, right?” We both gasped and then instantly began singing the lyrics to “La Bamba,” an inside joke we’d shared since our family’s Alaskan cruise decades ago when we, unintentionally, won the ship’s karaoke contest among a sea of Patsy Cline tributes.
