Located in Stockholm, Sweden, at Nordic Light Hotel, Lykke, which translates to Luck, offers a unique and authentic dining experience for travelers and locals alike. Nordic Light Hotel is about giving travelers a sense of the Nordics and Nordic hospitality, and Lykke is no exception. The menu changes seasonally, and my dishes were part of the spring menu.

My dining experience started with a variety of small plates and Champagne. The small plates included Friterad broccoli (seasoned broccoli dipped in a spicy mayonnaise sauce and topped with dried rice) and a flatbread pizza with dollops of sour cream, caviar, arugula, cheese and basil. Both were delicious and set the meal off to a great start.
After a quick tour of the restaurant and hotel, I sat down for even more appetizers and small portions of the most popular main courses on the menu. Each course was served with a special white wine. I started out with grilled asparagus covered in Parmesan cheese. If you happen to find this on the menu, I highly recommend it. Next, I enjoyed a common Swedish appetizer, Toast Skagen, butter fried toast with vendace roe and mayonnaise topped with shrimp. Lastly for appetizers, I had sea scallops in a white cream sauce. Even though I already sampled a lot, I was ready for the main courses.

They started off with a shoulder cut of pork. The shoulder isn’t a typical cut of pork as it tends to be fattier than the rest. That said, I still enjoyed it; I thought it was meatier and more tender than other cuts. The last dish was a one-of-a-kind fish. I believe was called gardsclarias. The fish was fileted and served over a cream sauce, a delicious touch. I highly recommend this fish for those struggling to like seafood but curious to try new dishes. It didn’t taste fishy at all, more like chicken.
The last course included a delicious princess cake, berry sorbet and small piece of chocolate cake — all delicious! To end the night, I was introduced to Hot Shots — a Swedish favorite. Hot Shots remind me of an espresso martini but in shot form. The shot includes Galliano Liqueur, coffee and whipped cream, and this ended up being one of my favorite drinks I had there. I even made some when I got home for friends!

After tasting a little bit of almost everything on the menu, I think it’s safe to say Lykke is a must-visit when in Stockholm.
