Renewing a passport is often fraught with paperwork, digging through your personal files to find original copies of proof of existence, followed by weeks — maybe months — of waiting for the actual book to be ready. But the Mobile Passport app makes this process a lot easier and, hopefully, faster.

The app is currently available for travelers to download to iOS or Android devices and allows people to speed through customs upon returning to the United States from abroad. Users simply add their passport information and complete their inbound flight details to participate. The app also sends a notification to users six months before their passport is set to expire, and now users will be able to begin the renewal process right away on the app.

Through a partnership with RushMyPassport, app users can expedite the passport renewal process and get their new passport in as little as 24 hours. To take advantage of this service, users must pay a hefty extra fee of $450. A 10-day turnaround service is also available for $120. These fees are in addition to the State Department renewal fee, which starts at $170.

Renewers still must print the renewal forms and send them by snail mail to RushMyPassport in order to expedite the process.
