Qantas is flying the first of its upgraded Airbus A380 planes, which include multimillion-dollar upgrades. The new features include new business-class seats and a redesigned upper deck lounge.
The upper deck is made up of business and premium-economy seats, and first-class and economy seats are on the lower deck. The expanded lounge also sits on the upper deck. The new planes have an increase of 27 percent in premium seats.
The airline also rolled out its new Qantas Business Suite, which replaces the Skybed business-class seats. The new seats are in a 1-2-1 configuration, allowing aisle access for every passenger. The planes now have 70 Business Suites, six more than before. The seats retain the previous 80-inch bed length as the previous model, but the bed width is now 24 inches.
There’s also a new premium-economy seat, arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration. These seats are 10 percent wider than before and have a footrest.
Passengers also now have access to a self-service snack bar and a larger in-flight entertainment screen.
The airline is also rolling out a larger onboard lounge, which can fit up to 10 business- and first-class passengers. The lounge serves dishes such as dry laska goreng with fishcakes and seared prawns to mushroom arancini in a tomato ragù with custom-designed menus for each route.
