At The National Art Museum in Beijing, China, permanent collections include impressive displays of traditional Chinese painting techniques, oil paintings, prints, sculpture, lacquer paintings and works in both watercolor and waterpowder. Among a host of notable works are Snow on Tianshan Mountain by Liang Dong and Flying Apsaras-Dunhuang Mogao Grotto No. 275 Northern Liang by Ma Changli. Fine art categories extend to Caricature and New Year Painting. Unique to Chinese folk culture, this art form hails from decorations used to welcome the Lunar New Year.

Other extensive exhibits feature folk costumes, pottery, puppets, toys, porcelain and kites that are flying works of art, such as the paper Crane and Deer in the Spring by Fei Baoling, the silk Colored Butterfly Seeking Flower by an unknown artist and the paper Happiness is in Front of Eyes by an anonymous artist. A large collection of ancient and contemporary puppets — such as Fairy, dating to the Ming Dynasty — include popular figures of clowns and stylized human figures. Carved masks include the Chick God, Ox God, heroes from Chinese legends and figures of generals and religious leaders. The museum is closed on Mondays. Entrance is complimentary, with a maximum of 4,000 tickets issued daily to visitors.
